The Matchstiq Top 100

Matchstiq's take on Osho

Osho is on a mission to build a residential electricity model that is fit for the future world.

The market opportunity ahead for Osho

The first leap we are taking is to redesign the electrical infrastructure that homes depend on. It's a small step in our master plan, but an important one if we are to realise our ambitious vision. We all need to contribute to accelerating efforts to combat climate change and dampen rising household costs.

Why Osho is a great place to work

At Osho, we're building a team of exceptionally talented people to drive toward our goals. We are driven by purpose, real innovation and ambition. We're well-funded and are growing fast - but we're focused on doing so with the right people, a solid culture of ambition and values that mean something to all of us.

Although we have offices, we take a remote-first approach to ensure we are ready for any situation, way of life, type of person or location, as best as we can. We also have great flexibility, office dogs and unlimited annual leave.

Our Culture

What makes Osho a great place to work

Our team is empathetic, passionate, and constantly learning and improving the way we work together. We encourage everyone to take an entrepreneurial approach to their work, and test new ideas for the good of the company, even if there are many failures along the way.

We promote distributed, remote working, but some of our team does need to be based close to our Christchurch Design Lab for access to products and tools. Despite being dispersed, our team communicates regularly, travels between offices on occasion, and has flexibility when it comes to work hours, days, and locations.

We’re building a talented team across many domains - design, hardware and software engineering, product, community, operations, and people experience (to name a few) and we’d love to hear from you regardless of where you are in NZ (or the wider world)!

Why now?

This is your chance to be a part of something new, exciting, and well-funded at an early stage - an opportunity that many people look for in a start-up but can miss out on. Not only that, you’re helping contribute to a higher purpose by pushing society towards cleaner, greener energy and reducing our collective carbon footprint.

We’ve got a motivating ESOP scheme, an unlimited annual leave policy, the choice to work from home when you want, office dogs, and team events (just ask what we did for our Christmas party last year). So jump aboard!

Senior UI Engineer

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in your next role?

At Osho, our purpose is to radically accelerate the energy revolution - starting with smarter, safer, and more efficient homes. We’re focused on improving experiences for people through the application of technology, data, and a deep understanding of human behaviour.

Why? As a society, we need to decarbonise and accelerate the transition to alternative energy sources. Existing solutions are expensive and disparate, with limited functionality.

Osho is driven by purpose, real innovation, and ambition. We have a talented team spread across New Zealand, and a Design Lab in Christchurch where our physical products come to life.

Our team is smart, curious and has some big goals - if you’re interested in joining a fast-growing and well-funded startup that is design-led and puts people at its core, then we’d love to hear from you!

This is your chance to join something special early, and contribute to making a very real impact.

We're also currently in stealth mode, so check out our website and we'll share more with you during the recruitment process.

The Role

We're on the lookout for an amazing UI engineer to join Osho’s small but mighty (and fast-growing) digital software team. You will work with team members of all disciplines to build quick experiments and product features, creating applications across Osho’s digital product suite.

This job is for you if you are passionate about contributing to all phases of software development - including ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation - and helping us set up our UI Engineering/Frontend practice. We’re a collaborative bunch, so part of your role will be supporting your fellow engineers through feedback, code reviews, and advancement of internal tools and processes.

Some of the things that you might be involved in include:

  • Working directly with designers, product managers, software and hardware engineers to build and ship full prototype experiments and digital products from scratch
  • Building new tools and services that make it fast, safe, and easy for future engineers to leverage our web frameworks
  • Contributing to all phases of software development, from ideation through to implementation
  • Developing and executing against both short and long-term roadmaps, making effective tradeoffs between business impact, user experience, and a high-quality technical foundation
  • Being an active participant in our culture, involving yourself in mentorship, interviewing, and new initiatives
  • Supporting your fellow engineers by providing feedback and code reviews

About You

We think you’ll be a fit for this role if you:

  • Have 5+ years of practical experience in Front End Web Development
  • Are experienced with modern JavaScript coding (React, Vue.js, Node.js), Typescript, continuous delivery, automated testing, debugging and automation
  • Can deliver modern, testable, and maintainable code
  • Have strong expertise in CSS and HTML, including current best practices
  • Excel at creating responsive, device-agnostic interfaces
  • Love building modular, well-structured web applications with beautiful and useful user interfaces
  • Value visual design patterns and can implement and maintain style guides
  • Love to iterate - ideally you’ve worked in an agile environment, and are comfortable pushing teams to improve their ways of working
  • Have a passion for, or experience in, working for a start-up
  • Are adaptable and resourceful - able to develop effective solutions to problems
  • Have an analytical mind, and can clearly translate and communicate your ideas to others

Benefits

  • A competitive salary and employee share scheme (ESOP)
  • A remote-first culture - work from home or come into the office, it's totally up to you
  • Great new headphones when you join
  • Flexible hours - we focus on effort and outcomes, not being chained to a desk 8 am to 5 pm
  • A schedule of fun team events throughout the year (ziplining, knife throwing, lawn games, what's next?)
  • Office dogs
  • Unlimited annual leave so that you can take the time that you need to re-energise
  • A beachside office in Takapuna
  • The opportunity to learn and develop from some of the best and brightest minds in the industry!

Chief of Staff

At Osho, our purpose is to radically accelerate the energy revolution - starting with smarter, safer, and more efficient homes. We’re focused on improving experiences for people through the application of technology, data, and a deep understanding of human behavior.

Why? As a society, we need to decarbonize and accelerate the transition to alternative energy sources. Existing solutions are expensive and disparate, with limited functionality.

Osho is driven by purpose, real innovation, and ambition. We have a talented team spread across New Zealand and a Design Lab in Christchurch where our physical products come to life.

Our team is smart, curious, and has some extremely ambitious goals - if you’re interested in joining a well-funded startup that is design-led and puts people at its core, then we’d love to hear from you!

This is your chance to join something special early, and contribute to making a very real impact.

We're also currently in stealth mode, so check out our website and we'll share more with you during the recruitment process

The Role

Our Chief of Staff is a senior, critical role that will own productivity and delivery across the business. We need someone to be the key intersection point between all departments, the driver of collaboration and communication, and the person who holds everyone to account - including the CEO. This person will own our OKR framework, live and breathe our ‘Focus’ value, and operate at a strategic level across the entire company.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to develop their leadership skills, learn how a start-up operates from the inside, and gain broad exposure to a variety of functions - helping you select and carve out your own career path. You’ll work with everyone from employees, to the board, to external parties, doing what it takes to clear roadblocks and keep everything running smoothly.

You do not need to have held this role before to apply for it - in fact, we expect most applicants to have never held a Chief of Staff position before!

Some of the things that you might be involved in include:

  • OKRs - owning the framework, holding teams to account, and driving progress
  • Governance - preparing and presenting updates to the board
  • Internal operations - help define and iterate our internal processes to increase the effectiveness of our teams.
  • Prioritization - steering the ship by getting us to focus on what matters most
  • Recruiting - helping us secure the exceptional talent for critical hires
  • Company alignment - really embedding our purpose, values, vision, and mission across Osho, and helping others to do so
  • Fundraising - Assisting in various workstreams to help us close our next funding round.
  • Special projects - dedicating your skills to areas and teams where they are needed most! These will often be random and could include anything from gaining B-Corp certification to shipping conjoint surveys.

About You

We think you’ll be a fit for this role if you:

  • Excel at getting things done
  • Are extremely well organized
  • Are a strong communicator across all levels
  • Consider a changing, ambiguous environment to be exciting (not daunting)
  • Are driven to achieve goals at the individual, team, and company level
  • Have a taste for working in a start-up environment (and love it)
  • Consider your judgment to be one of your strongest skills
  • Are hungry to grow and develop in any way you can
  • Have the mental aptitude to work out what needs to be done, instead of waiting to be told what to do

Your background is not important for this role, but disciplines in operations, people, product, or design will likely be helpful.

  • Unlimited annual leave so that you can take the time that you need to re-energize.
  • The opportunity to learn and develop from some of the best and brightest minds in the industry!
  • Beach side office in Takapuna

Head of Marketing

The Role

One of our key values is “Be Candid” and this job ad epitomises that value.

We don’t know exactly what we need. All we really know is that we have spent the last 2 years designing something transformational for its industry, and it needs a creative yet strategic marketing exec to drive us towards product launch.

Where is our go-to-market (GTM) team currently at?

  • One of our founders is dedicated to building a top-of-funnel pipeline, and fostering relationships with our key distribution channel (electrical trade)
  • We have recently welcomed a Head of Community who will be driving engagement within said channel
  • We plan on hiring additional marketing/sales/GTM resources once the skillsets of this Head of Marketing are solidified. You’ll be instrumental in recruiting for these future roles

What product will you be launching?

  • There is a white-space opportunity to transform our products category from “100-year old industrial” into a powerful design-led D2C proposition
  • Global market size for this product is ~ $100b annually. In NZ it is ~ $200m. Every home in the world is regulated to have one
  • We already have ~$100m+ in top-of-funnel pipeline
  • We will have profitable unit economics at launch, with the long-term ability to create valuable services from embedded technologies (our trojan horse)
  • Unit economics are competitive against incumbents, which should ensure rapid adoption within traditional distribution channels. There is precedent in this channel to adopt new products quickly

What brand will you be marketing?

  • Not a great deal of effort has gone into our brand to date, however, we are about to enter a brand strategy process with an agency that works with clients globally
  • Hopefully, you’ll join this process, be a critical contributor, then implement, refine, and craft it further
  • We plan on internalising the brand and design as much as possible over the coming years
  • We are obsessive on design, and as a business we are investing heavily in this area
  • We are even more obsessive on customer/user experience
  • Our purpose is not a fluff-piece. We have big ambitions to impact people’s lives in a meaningful way. The way we tell our story is incredibly important
  • Our dedication to improving the planet is real and we are committed to becoming a B-corp

About You

We think you’ll be a fit for this role if you:

  • Are on a high career trajectory. We expect you to be capable of becoming our CMO when we move to C-level titles as our teams grow.
  • Are exceptional at what you do, and are likely unrivalled in your craft. To be clear, we are not afraid of paying for excellence.
  • Can comfortably transition from an IC to a leadership role as we scale, and understand the immediate demands of a startup i.e. we need people to get s**t done.
  • Have a track record, backed by metrics, of launching new products in competitive markets
  • Have a T-shaped skills base, capable of going wide but also with deep domain expertise in a few verticals that will be important for us over the next 12 months
  • Are creative
  • Live and breath our Purpose - “to radically accelerate the clean-energy revolution”
  • Have the knowledge and experience of launching a product with a complex feature set within a large global market
  • Have experience launching products in multiple countries in quick succession
  • Are awesome person. Just like the rest of our team.

We’re not concerned about your years of experience, we only care about outcomes and your growth trajectory.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary and employee share scheme (ESOP)
  • A remote-first culture - work from home or come into the office, it's totally up to you
  • Great new headphones when you join
  • Flexible hours - we focus on effort and outcomes, so adjust your hours around your children, hobbies, or other commitments
  • A schedule of fun team events throughout the year (ziplining, knife throwing, lawn games, what's next?)
  • Office dogs
  • Unlimited annual leave so that you can take the time that you need to re-energise
  • A newly-refurbished beachside office in Takapuna
