CEO at Serato
Never really thinking too much about his career and just following his nose has served Young Ly very well over the years.
Young was an early adopter of computer games in a time when computers were really just machines for business and required you to learn how they worked to be able to play games. This set him on studying Computer Science at Auckland University and a deeper love for computers.
Post uni, young teamed up with a couple of his friends to have a crack at building their own computer game, which although did not become a financial success, taught Young everything he needed to know to excel in all of his future jobs.
Fast forward a few years and Young now captains the ship at Serato, which is an incredibly cool kiwi tech company, creating world-leading DJ software to some of the biggest names in music. This has seen Young have casual encounters with childhood heroes like Mix Master Mike from the Beastie Boys and many others, which Young affectionately refers to as 'Serato moments'.
For anyone considering a tech career or just simply wondering what they might want to do next in their career, Young has some great advice that should reduce anyone's anxiety.
