The Matchstiq Top 100

Matchstiq's take on Figured

Figured's mission is to provide the farming team immediate access to financial information and insights, improving the profitability and sustainability of farming now and for future generations.

The market opportunity ahead for Figured

Our proven track record of growth in New Zealand is a blueprint for our other newer global markets. We have established a strong customer base from our dedicated work in the accounting and advisor partner channel and continue this work in Australia, the United Kingdom and North America.

We believe the Agri industry has not kept pace with other sectors in developing a truly integrated ecosystem that puts its customers first. As part of an open-source philosophy, we already have a number of integration partners and this will only grow.

The Agri-industry’s biggest pot of gold is its data – how it can be accessed and shared to drive efficiency and innovation across the board. And, aside from a focus on the continued growth of our customer base for our core Figured product, we have also recently launched Figured Insights, a data analytics platform that is a genuine game-changer for advisors.

This platform enables advisors to rapidly respond to market changes across their whole farm client portfolio, and increase their advisory capacity to be even stronger partners to their farming clients.

Figured Insights will roll out to other markets as we grow. The intensity and unpredictability of market forces only grows more demanding, and the need for a committed and skilled advisory team, backed by intuitive technology and an interconnected network has never been stronger.

Why Figured is a great place to work

We are committed to our mission to create a more profitable and sustainable future for farmers. Accomplishing this requires everyone in our team to make an impact and we speak to this early in the recruitment stage and make sure those that join us are as excited as we are about our vision and the work.

Our culture is second to none; we have people from all walks of life – from young farmers wanting to give back to the industry in a new way, to gadget junkies that geek out about the latest tech and love the start-up challenge.

We love building cool tech, working with like-minded individuals and bringing this vision to life. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, both internally and externally.

Above and beyond the shared purpose and collective drive embedded in our culture we offer a range of great benefits:

  • Growth all around - When immersing yourself in a fast-growing company, you’ll be elevating your experience to the next level.
  • Global impact - Like the sound of making a real impact? We’ll give you the chance to do that on a global scale.
  • Top-notch mentoring - Learning from the best in a cross-functional scenario, you’ll enjoy plenty of professional development opportunities. Plus you can enjoy an annual personal development fund to spend towards your own development goals.
  • Flexibility - We care more about the impact you’re making and less about where and how you work, this means you can enjoy both the comfort of your home/cafe/beach and the energy and buzz of our amazing Auckland city office.
  • Health - enjoy extra leave with 25 days off a year and free health insurance with Southern Cross.
  • Fun! - daily quizzes, Tim Tams, fruit, ice cream Thursdays and Friday kai are just a few of the rituals that bring us together.

Working with us

Values

  • Work in the open

We value transparency, collaboration, and fostering the skills of the wider team. We do our best work when we share early and often, harnessing the diversity in thinking around the business. We are big on chasing momentum, providing impact and learning fast.

  • Make bold decisions

We stick our necks out and keep things moving. Decisions are our key to ensuring that we continue to execute and move forward at pace. Whether it’s the big decisions that fundamentally shift the way we work or the 100’s of micro-decisions that we make on a day-to-day basis that shape our business and help us scale.

  • Take ownership

"This is not in my job description" is not part of our vocabulary. We feel a substantial, personal stake in the company’s performance and are happiest when we are owning and driving these outcomes.

  • Don’t be a dick

We leave our egos at the door at Figured. We’re respectful, kind and thoughtful to our workmates, working environment, customers, partners and our brand. We approach conflict in a constructive manner and are open to differing views and outlooks.

  • Give a damn

Giving a damn is the heartbeat of Figured - it is one of our original values that has survived the test of time. It doesn’t just speak to giving a damn about our work and the Figured business, but also giving a damn about our colleagues (Figgies), our customers, partners, product, our shareholder’s money, and of course ourselves.

We're looking for a sharp full stack developer prepared to roll their sleeves up and dive into great technical challenges and help us continue to build our amazing Figured product. Naturally you thrive in a fast-paced, flexible and supportive startup culture.

8 years in, we might not get away with calling ourselves a startup but we lead with those core principles that continue to make us successful today and give us plenty of autonomy and ownership with equal amounts of challenges and support.

We realise that good product developers can hop across stacks so we're not too fussed if you don't tick all the tech boxes, lots of our developers are technology agnostic too. We are more interested in your overall talent across and your ambitions to learn and make an impact

You'll work alongside like-minded, sharp individuals that will help you bridge any tech gaps (as you will for them).

A day of a dev at Figured

  • You’ll work with an immediate team (pod) comprising of around 4-5 developers and a wider development team of around 25 developers
  • You’ll kick off your day with a short walk with your colleagues to the local cafe and the best bit is that your coffee (or whatever else you prefer) is on Figured! This might happen before or after the team’s standup (why not both!).
  • Your team will own end to end feature development of a core part of the Figured App or Intelligence Platform. Working on everything from scoping, architecture to testing and delivery, alongside your product and customer success partners
  • Fix it Fridays will take you out of the usual feature development groove and get you working on those fixes, this is core to ensuring our product endures and our customers are still crushing on us. We’ll reward your efforts with a catered lunch with the wider NZ team.

Impact

Celebrating impact is one of our dev principles! you’ve worked hard to build your skills, make every line of code count towards making this world better.

Technical challenge

A highly sophisticated solution with intricate business logic and great data complexities, an amazing playground for someone looking to flex all their dev muscles.

Developer experience matters

We deeply care about developer experience - in fact, it's another one of our dev principles, we want devs focusing on the important things like building product that solves our customer's problems, and to do that they need a low friction environment, expect to be able to set yourself up for success from day one.

Progressive tech stack

Tech stack - we’re not in the business of chasing fads for the sake of it, we do go for lightweight, well supported, low friction technology choices that can handle our complex logic and scale needs, this has meant we ended up with a great progressive stack which we deliberately stay on top of the latest versioning to reap the support benefits.

And the works...

  • A real purpose to what you do - How about helping the industry that feeds the world
  • Growth all around - When immersing yourself into a fast-growing company, you’ll be elevating your experience to the next level. $2K per year to spend on your personal development, doesnt have to be tied to your role at Figured.
