Senior Software Developer

As Senior Software Developer, your role will be full of variety. As well as being on the tools with your team, your purpose is to:

  1. Communicate clearly with the founders and team members any risks, technical debt, and progress of work so they can make informed decisions
  2. Working closely with a strong team of developers to produce world-class software
  3. Directly deliver customer-facing features that deliver real-world benefits to impact students lives

 

What we're looking for in our Senior Software Developer...

You are a talented full-stack web developer who is passionate about all the steps of delivering a great product.

You like to take initiative, take ownership of projects and features and collaborate with others.

You are great at working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to develop simple and intuitive solutions to problems.

Requirements

As our Senior Software Developer, you'll bring:

  • At least 6 years of genuine developer/development experience with customer-facing web applications
  • Experience across the full Software Development Lifecycle
  • Experience working in, and helping to create, a strong engineering culture
  • Experience with some of the technologies we use:
    • TypeScript
    • React (or other JS framework)
    • Node.js
    • Google Cloud (or AWS, Azure), including architecting and deploying applications
    • SQL
    • DevOps processes and technologies (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
    • GraphQL and Restful APIs
    • Flutter (Dart)
    • Native mobile development (Android, iOS)
    • Testing processes and frameworks
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (incl. performance, data structures, design patterns, networking)
  • You enjoy working with people and bringing a collective solution to the production environment
  • Ready to make a difference in the world with development that will actually have a direct impact on human lives, by enabling students to handle life issues better than ever before!

Your day-to-day:

This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) based in New Zealand. We are flexible on working arrangements and hours, though we have a preference for applicants that can be based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Duties include:

  • Collaborating with designers, engineers and founders to build an awesome web and mobile application
  • Writing code that is clean, highly maintainable and well-tested
  • Managing the deployment and maintenance of the product
  • Operating as a team player
  • Architecting solutions for new use-cases and problems
  • Working to continuously improve the codebase and architecture
  • Orchestrating the response when production issues arise
  • Taking responsibility for the technical delivery of a reliable product that customers love

Requirements

As a Software Developer on the team, we want you to have:

  • At least 3 years of development experience, with good, full-stack exposure.
  • Great software design skills and an active interest in adopting good software design practices.
  • Good communication skills to work with a fast-paced team.
  • Previous exposure to common development process frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban is a bonus but not crucial.

Your day-to-day:

  • Listen and respond to customer needs while using the product in a proactive manner
  • A combination of face-to-face customer contact to ensure customer problems are solved effectively
  • Proactively work with the sales team to ensure customer needs are met
  • Communicating customer feedback to key internal stakeholders in the product team for future development
  • Nurturing existing customers and key relationships to ensure the best quality of service
  • Managing customers through continual opportunities to upsell, renew and expand
  • Remaining up-to-date with the latest trends on school-wide and student wellbeing strategies
  • Operating as a team player
  • Taking responsibility for the school-wide rollout of the product that customers love
