The Market Opportunity Ahead for Raygun

Raygun is an established brand with tens of thousands of active users. The market potential is huge, and Raygun is well-positioned to capitalize on the opportunity.

Opportunities

Senior Software Engineer

Raygun is on a mission to help our customers create perfect software experiences. Success is when our platform targets the most valuable work that engineers around the world can do to make their customers thrilled. We offer Crash Reporting, Real User Monitoring, and Application Performance Monitoring, giving engineers who care about customer experience a toolkit to cleverly focus their efforts.

We rely on our Senior Software Engineers to lead technical decisions in our teams. You’ll shape how we build features, help set your team’s delivery dates, mentor your team to demonstrate best practices, and have lots of hands-on-keys time: we think Seniors are the powerhouse of an engineering team so we make sure they’ve got a lot of latitude to exercise their craft.

Raygun has a C# backend, with a centralised web user interface application in React, 60 internal services that run the Raygun logic, and 50 language providers and platform integrations. We’re using MySQL, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch and Druid for our datastores, and messaging with RabbitMQ and Kafka. It’s complex running architecture at the billion-event scale, but we’re proud of our platform and we know the right person will be excited to join us to make it even more useful for our customers.

To be successful, you’ll need to bring deep software development skills and a lot of pragmatism. You’ll be able to energise your team and clearly communicate concepts and progress to the rest of the organisation. You’ll also really care about the Raygun customer experience—the main reason we have a successful product today is because we all go the extra mile for them.

What we offer you

In return, we’ll offer you:

  • An outsized influence on engineering outcomes at Raygun; we’re in the “goldilocks zone” of engineering team sizes, big enough to tackle huge problems and small enough that everyone has a big part to play and we can move nimbly
  • Continual opportunities for growth in the direction you want to take your career—we’re serious about this and dedicate 10% learning and development time that we all actively use
  • A stunningly good product in good technical health to enjoy working with
  • A wonderful team that you'll be proud to be part of
  • Office HQ in Wellington Central

An overview of our process

Our process is an online 90-minute technical challenge where you’ll write a simple console game to demonstrate your coding skills, a 30-minute chat on video conference to answer any questions you have, and then two in-person interviews to explore how our culture and values align as well as understand your technical specialties. We aim to move fast and we commit to always give feedback to candidates who make it to our technical challenge.

Requirements

We believe a diverse team is the best team and encourage people with all life experiences to apply. However because we're a New Zealand employer, please only apply if you’re currently in New Zealand with a right to work here. We’re looking forward to learning more about you!

Principal Engineer at Raygun is a rare dream role for experienced engineers: you’ll guide teams to make pragmatic technology decisions, upskill our people to become excellent technologists, directly contribute to technology yourself through experiments and spikes, run the engineering backlog with dedicated team time, and participate in our engineering leadership team.
