Matchstiq's take on Multitudes

The vision of Multitudes is to make equity the default at work. Where having a fair and just workplace is the norm – something that flows through all of the systems.

The Market Opportunity Ahead for Multitudes

Globally, companies spend $95B+ a year trying to make their teams more effective – be it with performance management tools, employee engagement tools, or coaching and training initiatives. By looking at how people collaborate to get work done, Multitudes links team behaviour (a.k.a. culture) to team performance.

The do this by providing insights and recommendations to unlock happier, higher-performing teams. Essentially, providing a coach at each person’s fingertips – making it easy for teams to see where they are today, identify hot spots and potential issues, and take action to become not only more inclusive but also higher-performing.

Multitudes welcomed their first customers in New Zealand last year and raised their first round of investment led by Blackbird Ventures. They are currently building out their beta product, have recently doubled their team size, and brought in early beta testers in New Zealand, the US, Australia, and the UK.

Diversity and Inclusion at Multitudes

Given their business is built around diversity and inclusion, this really is their bread and butter. Some of the supporting initiatives include:

  • Completing an ally skills workshop as a company, to learn about areas of privilege and where they can take action against systems of oppression. Each team member created an individual action plan for changing their own behaviours and contributing to systemic change in the world.
  • They are running a series of workshops on Te Tiriti o Waitangi to learn about the history of colonisation in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Australia-based team members have all gone through a workshop on how to do an Acknowledgement of Country.
  • Advertise job posts in communities for groups under-represented in tech.
  • Set interview criteria and weightings in advance and have multiple interviewers / scorers from different backgrounds to minimise the impact of systemic bias.
  • They ask all applicants to share how they’ve personally contributed to creating more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces and communities.
  • Finally, they use the Multitudes product with their own team to make sure that everyone is getting support and no one is at risk of burnout.
